Hollow Cheeks

The Causes

Hollow cheeks occur when the area beneath the cheekbones appears sunken creating a gaunt or aged look.  This can be caused by a variety of factors, including age-related loss of facial fat and collagen, significant weight loss, or genetic predisposition.  The loss of volume in the mid-face area contributes to a less youthful and defined facial contour.

While hollow cheeks are often associated with aging, they can also affect younger individuals.  Dermal fillers, which are injected into the cheeks to restore volume, are a popular treatment option for addressing hollow cheeks.  Other procedures, such as fat grafting, may also be considered.
